MY CITY

ALEX KNIGHT

TOKYO

We've been a fan of Alex Knight's stunning photography for some time now. His haunting shots of Tokyo streets - inspired by cyberpunk, anime and SciFi - have earned him a legion of fans and a big following on Instagram.

The Australian photographer and UX designer has lived in Tokyo for the past 5 years. When he's not busy working, he loves to wander the city at night hunting for that next killer cyberpunk shot.

We asked Alex to share some of his favourite places in the world's most populous metropolis...

"I love to hit flea markets on the weekends, searching for cool retro toys, old gadgets and especially vintage cameras and lenses. Ohi Racecourse is my favourite, with 100s of stalls and it's open most of the year."

"The vibe here creates such a good atmosphere to hang out with friends, eat and drink. I often take friends here to get a serious down-to-earth Japanese experience. No tourist hype, just people eating food and drink."

Keeping it authentic

NIKU YOKOCHO

"Most weekends during the warmer months, if I want to get out of the house on the weekends, I can pretty much always guarantee there is something happening here. Always different and fun, it's an awesome way to spend a Saturday afternoon."

YOYOGI PARK EVENTS SQUARE

"I am a big fan of occasionally treating ourselves to a fancy dinner, and this is one of the more amazing experiences I have had. 7 courses, cooked to perfection in front of you, and then enjoying dessert and a nightcap in their upstairs speakeasy-style bar."

Top-notch Teppanyaki

ATELIER MORIMOTO XEX

"What is not to love about taking a 2-hour cruise in Tokyo Bay, while eating okonomiyaki, monjayaki and enjoying free flowing drinks?! The view of the Rainbow Bridge is spectacular, too. And in the warmer months, sometimes a guy comes by in his little boat and sells you ice cream through the windows!"
